Live project with Thames & Hudson on J.T. Williams' Bright Stars of Black British History. The portraits in my design are from the famous historical figures mentioned on the website, London Black History.

First Design: I thought of the north star, a symbol of the direction for the underground railroad in Black history, and made each historical black British figure into a star sign itself. The circle in the centre is cut, so readers can see the faces become real stars when flipping the cover.

Second Design: As a book that introduces the history, I immediately thought of museums. Hence, I designed a planetarium with historical figures placed in the main building while the viewer continues exploring (stargazing) on the top floor. As there will be a palette for each character, this cover design can also be used as chapter pages, and how the windows "light up" when that historical person is mentioned in that chapter.
